FUNDRAISING
The third mailing will be ready the week of November 11.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The dam project is financially on target.
GRANTS
MLIF was awarded a two-year grant from the Anne S. Richardson Fund. The Grant Committee will work on the 2025 grant plans.
LAKE MANAGEMENT
This year, we contracted for algae treatments every two weeks, with the next one scheduled for Sept. 10. Pond and Lake Connection (PLC) recommended we have a treatment October 1. The Board agreed.
DAM IMPROVEMENET PROJECT
Our Dam Project was reviewed by the Town Inland Wetlands Board at their July 25 meeting. Our engineer, Dave Battista, was at the meeting and explained the plans. The I/W Board meets by Zoom, and they do not approve/disapprove the project. They just ask questions and make comments.
The next step is to get the plans completed. We are pushing on Haley Ward. They have promised that the plans will be submitted to CT DEEP Dam Safety next week. The plans will be submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by November 1. We expect approvals from the Army Corps by mid-March. Once the plans go to DEEP, a meeting will be held with Town officials to update them. If all is on track, we can expect construction to begin in early Spring 2025.
Instead of lowering the level of the lake for the dam construction beyond what is advisable, a coffer dam will be placed in the lake in an area that is about 6 feet deep.
We had large amounts of rain on August 17-18 but experienced no damage to the dam.
NEW BUSINESS
PLC requested that we contact the State about the poor condition of the State boat ramp. There are huge potholes and if this deterioration continues, they may not be able to put the boat into the lake to treat the lake.
