COMMITTEE REPORTS
Fundraising
The next fundraising letter will go out before Christmas. It was noted that we are close to meeting our fundraising goal for the year.
Grants
A meeting to discuss ideas for approaches to grant applications will be held with the Grants Committee before our next Board meeting. It was noted that most grants have come from the state or local level, or private organizations, and not from the federal level.
LAKE MANAGEMENT
Treatments – Pond and Lake Connection (PLC) sent the 2022 treatment proposal which looks very similar to last year’s. There will be 8 total treatments (we pay for 7) and it’s our responsibility to decide how to spread them out. If we were to add 2 more treatments to the proposal it would cost an additional $3500.00; if needed, the Board will approve the addition at the end of summer.
Phragmites – Last month the Board approved the phragmites treatment plan. There are a half dozen properties that have phragmites on it. We will send a letter to the residents requesting permission to do the treatment on their property. We should have an update by the January 2022 meeting and know if any residents objected.
The plan is to treat in April and October. PLC recommends 2 treatments. We missed the optimal time to treat this Fall, so the treatments would be in April and September of 2022.
Clear-Cutting around the lake – An observation was made that someone has done a lot of mowing on the inside of the guardrail at the west end of the lake. From a lake management perspective, we encourage homeowners along the lake not to pull or clear out plantings in that area. We will discuss that problem again at a future meeting if needed.
Boat Launch Sign – The DEEP was contacted about removal of our sign at the boat launch. The representative told us we could not re-post our sign as it would set a precedent for other organizations. In conversation, the DEEP input on invasive species grants will be very helpful to our Grants Committee.
NEW BUSINESS
Bylaws – Timing of Annual Meeting
In 2019, changes were made to the bylaws to make them more relevant. One specific change was to hold the annual meeting in March. Since then, we have discussed that it would be nicer to have the meeting in the summer because more people are likely to participate. We will need to amend the bylaws to give us more flexibility about when to hold the annual meeting. The goal is to have it during the summer, probably in June, though not locked into a specific month.
