FUNDRAISING
Year-end 2024, individual donations fell short of our budgetary goal.
2025 BUDGET
The proposed 2025 Budget was reviewed by the Board. Because of some still unknown information, the Board decided to vote on the 2025 Budget at the February meeting.
GRANTS
MLIF was awarded a two-year grant from the Anne S. Richardson Fund for the dam project.
A list of all submitted grant applications for the dam project, and the results thereof, for the period 2010 through 2024 were distributed.
The Grant Committee met in early January. Upcoming grant opportunities were discussed, clarified and recommendations to the Board were decided upon. The results of the committee’s recommendations were distributed to the Board. Needs identified were:
– Purchase and installation of new marine-quality tarp at the spillway
– Purchase and planting of required native plants to hold soil at newly constructed dam
– Printing of new educational pamphlets for distribution to the watershed residents
Other grant opportunities are being explored.
LAKE MANAGEMENT
Pond and Lake Connection (PLC) will duplicate the 2024 treatment plan for 2025. A check of whether we need any new treatment permits will be made.
DAM IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The archeological survey report filed with the State showed no more investigation needed. Nine holes were drilled along the dam which showed minor evidence of pre-European settlers and post-European settlers. The conclusion was that all findings were ephemeral.
The construction plans and reports were to be filed with the CT DEEP Dam Safety staff, and then the Army Corps of Engineers and the CT DEEP Water Quality Certification agency in November. But, as of this week, they have not been filed. We informed Haley Ward of the need for immediate action. Once plans and all reports have been submitted, we can begin requesting bids from construction companies. Time is essential if the project is to be done in 2025.
