COMMITTEE REPORTS
Fundraising
It was noted that our contributions are slightly ahead of last year at this time.
The next mailing will be sent at the end of August, together with a fundraising letter and a one-page newsletter.
A question arose about exact watershed borders and which properties have deeded lake rights. Except for the Beach Club, the lake has no other deeded lake rights. The lake is open to all. The watershed boundaries were determined with town assistance about 20 years ago when the “Entering Mamanasco Watershed” signs were placed. A map at that time delineated the watershed areas.
Grants
As of today, we have not yet heard from the funders of the Richardson Grant.
LAKE MANAGEMENT
Zebra Mussels – We placed three ZM traps, essentially retrievable cinder blocks, at three places in the lake. Currently these showed no signs of ZM.
Tree Removal – Two bids were received for removal of trees located by the Beach Club. One was $8,300 to remove all three trees, another was $3,200. A third bid will be sought.
2021 Treatment Summary – The lake will receive an algae treatment on August 10, and another is scheduled for late August. The question arose as to whether we should have another treatment in September. After discussion, a motion to fund a ninth algae treatment was approved.
OLD BUSINESS
MLIF 50th Anniversary Celebration
August 7, 2021, 3:00 p.m. at the home of Dean and Vicki Williams.
Dean Williams informed the Board of the planning for the event and noted that Rudy Marconi and Amy Berger-Giralvo would be attending. He is expecting about 45 people. A group photo will be taken at about 3:45 p.m. An article in the Ridgefield Press has highlighted the organization, its mission and work, and the 50th anniversary event. It was noted that Jack Sanders, former longtime editor of the Ridgefield Press and local historian, provided the historic lake photos that will be on display at the event.
